If you're concerned about warranty issues, the 254E would be a safe choice. It is a EPA compliant cam. The 204 would be a a good choice but is a "race" part. The Andrews 48H cam has similar characteristics of the 255 but carries out the power a bit further. This too would be a great two-up, roll on power cam at your stock 103" compression. ...
Actually the SE 204 is 49 state legal with the 103 application. It is only a "checkered flag" (race) for the 88 , 95 , 96 " motors.
Im going with the SE 204 this summer. Had them in my Softail with a 95 kit and was a great cam. Do a search there is a lot of good info on the 204, teh dont pull quite as strong from idle to 2000 rpm like the 255 do but they are strong from there to rev limiter with a very flat curve if properly tuned.
If you are leaning more to the mild side Id look at the 254e instead of the 255. The 255 are a good touring cam and have been around for a long time but from what Ive been seeing the 254e are a new grind and a little stronger without really giving up anything but gaining a little hp on the top side.
Going with a different cam WON'T void your warranty, with what you are asking for, I would look at the Andrews 54H. I put that cam in my Limited 103, and like everything about it. You have to just read up from the members and then pick what you will be happy with.
Good luck.
I put 255's in my 2010 Limited 103 and have nothing but good to report. The bike rolls on the power great and unlike what some on the forum report they don't really seem to run out of power too early. I have had no hot start issues. I could not be happier with the performance and so far reliability. You definetly won't be dissapointed if you choose to go with the 255's.
I'm installing S&S 551 easy start, was thinking the se255 but was concerned with hot starting problems.
I have a pair of these in my 96" with a Stage 1 AC/exhaust and a Revolution Perfomance EMS tuner with stock compression.
I couldn't be happier. This grind alo moves the curve to the right a bit further than the 255's and a bit flatter as well.
You will be happy with them, and they can take a comp bump to 9.9/1 if you feel the need.
Se 204 is good. the woods cams and other higher lift cams need mre compression to get them to work down low. You might want to look at the andrews 26, or a 48 Whatever cam you choose, get a TTS and a good tuner........
