I have a SG with the 577's and I love them..Look great, made great and what a relief on the back strain. At your size definitely go with the 14". I have the 12.5 and I'm a few inches shorter and even I sometimes with I would have gone up a bit. You won't be sorry. Biggest thing is to find the look and feel you like...I would think most good pipes are similar in make so it comes down to looks.

I'm only 5'8" with a 28" inseam which means my torso is somewhat long for my height. I had 12.5's on my RKC and they felt pretty comfortable but I was always thinking that 14's would've been better. Well I JUST swapped out for 14's and they do feel much more comfortable. My hands are right at shoulder level when I'm in riding position.

From my experience, if you're debating on 12.5's or 14's, I would go 14's. But everyone is different.

I am 6'0 went with the LA Choppers Prime apes which I believe are 12.5" tall on my '09 Street Glide. I love them but if I were honest I would go with 14's next time.

I've been following threads for two years on this forum trying to figure out what bars I want. In the beginning, I absolutely did NOT want apes, but I didn't like what people were saying about the wrist angle, feeling the wheelbarrow effect, having the bars in your lap with the "traditional bars". So, I started looking at the apes, I thought I'd had settled on the mini 8" from Wild1, but their site had some 10" in blems with a nice discount, so I talked myself into buying them. They were beautiful looking bars, great quality, but when I sat on by RK with them, I could tell they were too short. So, I called Wild1 and they gave me a return authorization without any hassle and I reordered a set of 12.5". Now I think they are about right, but I don't have them on yet, and I'm seeing many people say they liked the 12.5" but wished they would have gone with 14's.

Well, I've got the 12.5's and just bought extended clutch cable and brake lines, so they're going on next weekend. I'm so tired of thinking about it, and Spring is just about here, I'm gonna put 'em on and I'm gonna love 'em.

Mike

Apes are a tough decision. Most cases you have to go with your "gut" as generally they are something that's ordered and not on the shelf (broad sweeping generalization, I am sure there are some exceptions to this). Like exhaust or seats, some find it to be "trial and error".

As far as "the best?", any reputable manufacturer will make a quality product. Cyclsmith, HCC, Wild One, Yaffe, Carlini, LA Chopper, Klockwerks, RSD, etc. Find what fits your budget, your tastes, and your body style. That will be "the best". Otherwise enjoy reading what others have put on their bikes as 90% of recommendations on here are products the poster has used (and I am just as guilty of it as others).

I ordered the Prime Apes the day I first saw them. No regrets, no buyer's remorse. They fit me very well. That said, and it's one common theme you will probably pick up on; I could go taller. I don't need to though. I now also have a lower seat and that helped make them fit even better.

Whatever your choice, you will be making an improvement to the comfort of your ride (and I personally think the look as well) and you will be making your bike fit your needs better and enjoy it more.

Finally, when the day comes that you install your apes of choice, Welcome To The Club. Cheers.

Here's a pict of Santee 14" bagger apes I just installed. They come with the pull wires ran for ya. At $96 you cant go wrong. Turned out great. 16" are a little to tall. My buddies have the 13" cyclesmiths and wish they had gotten a little taller. I also showed a pict of 16" on a Road King I used to ride. I'm a shade under 6'4 tall.
