I agree with the previous comment on the length of the hose. Looking at the HF photo, it appears that you can unscrew the quick coupler from the hose and the hose from the union that screws into the guage. If you can, do it and screw the quick coupler directly to the guage for more accurate readings.
When you get that sorted out and are ready to take a reading, make sure the battery is fully charged, put it on a tender or charger to make sure the battery is fully charged before testing. Start her up and take the bike for a spin around the block to warm her up a bit and make sure the lifters are pumped up. Remove both plugs and ground them. Attach the guage, hold the trottle wide open and spin the engine with the starter; should take 5-7 cycles to pump up. Let the pressure off the gauge and take second reading to confirm the first.
Removing the fuel pump fuse won't hurt but not necessary.
