Default Propipe popping ....

Sorry but, I'm at my wits end. I have a 2011 Streetglide 103 with a stage 1 consisting of a SE air breather, SEPST, and a V&H Chrome Propipe. It has been Dyno'd. It runs great but on throttle up and then decel, I get an occasional backfire... Or, on shifting, I get an occasional backfire. Whats up ? Is it Temperature ? I had it Dyno'd in the 50 degree range. I noticed it occurs on the engine being warmed up, not cold... Is this the nature of a Propipe. If it is they can have it back. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Make sure you have zero exhaust leaks in the exhaust system. An easy way to check is with some cigar smoke. Leaks cause popping. If the exhaust system is airtight, then it's your tune.

I had popping with the stg1 similar to what you describe but after adding cams and then dyno tuning it's gone.

+1. Not the characteristic of the ProPipe; my brother runs one on the 95" we built for his '05 FXST; it's probably the best pipe for the money available now. Pull the pipes, install some SE SS exhaust gaskets, reintall pipes. Pull the muffler and reinstall with some high temp RTV silicone; sometimes they leak at that joint. Like Lowcountry says, if the exhaust system is air tight, most likely the tune.

Check for intake leaks as well.

I would love cams some day but, I don't want to add cams just to get rid of the popping... Was there something else that affected your bike that made it pop ?

I've had two Pro Pipes on my Deuce. The only time it popped is when I had a small leak at the head pipe gasket, and when the tune was off.
