Default 2007 Road King Custom quit while riding

Gentlemen,

Just Purchased and was on my second ride and was within 1/2mi from home and bike just quit as if no fuel, all electrical seems to work and turns over. Checked codes and got a (S) U1016 and a (SP) 1016. Anybody know which direction to point me? Checked all connections seem to be good. Is the ECM toast??? Are my FOB's causing this???

19k, Power Commander III, True Dual Rineharts, Dual FOBS

I'm far from an expert but I would disconnect your PCIII, plug your O2 connectors back in and see if it runs OK using just the ECM.

Its not the fob. Un plug the pcIII and see if that works.

Hope you got a warranty with the new ride... Both codes point to ECM

I interpret this differently. S is for TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/Turn Signal Security Module). SP= speedometer. U1016 is Loss of ECM Serial Data, Vehicle Speed, Vehicle Inhibit Motion or Powertrain Security Status TSM/TSSM.

I am a believer of checking the simple things first. I believe your security fob may be the culprit and the first thing I would do is replace the fob battery and go from there. Good luck.

Fobs's are good (batteries) Have removed the Power Comander III and tried with the original ECM only problem is that the O2 Sensors are not present on the true duals (Rinehart's) Creates new DTC: P0261 and P0263 o2 Sensors Low

My 07 RKC did the same thing last year. kept throwing all kinds of different codes. The ECM was bad. I replaced it with a Thundermax for only a couple hundred more than a stock ECM. I am very happy with the results.

My carbeurated EVO would never do this....dontcha wish Harley would have just built on the EVO platform and not installed all this modern pain in the *** computerized bs? I mean jeeeeeez they could have kept the carbs....and modified the engine some and still produced a very fast powerful carb'd driven machine everyone would have been happy with....I am not knocking the bike itself for the record I am knocking the MOCO.......the relentless pursuit of technology to stay current and viable in a market driven by jap bikes and victorys (yuck) has put lots of good looking bikes on the road with parts destined to leave us stranded on the side of the road......... For what we spend on our machines they should be reliable and if they cant be it seems like the MOCO's duty to us its customers to make them so....The design of the EVO engine was dependable and strong Im just saying they could have built on it for another generation or two and perfected the damn ECM , etc before they put them out there right?

Thanks for the info! Can you replace it yourself without putting it into the shop? It bolts up the same and is an aftermarket unit correct? Does it have to be somehow programmed to the bike and would I still use my Power Commander III?

TMax Is a direct plug in replacement (Very easy swap out on RoadKing) for stock ECM, you will not use your PCIII, TMax does everything the PCIII did and more. You will however have to install their O2 sensors. Initial setup is easy enough if you follow their procedure step by step.
I have 4 TMax,es and one of them just happens to be on a '07 RoadKing Custom with V&H true duals. My duals came with the O2 bungs on them, if yours did all you have to do is remove the plugs and screw in new sensors.
