My outlook is this, the majority of drivers and riders will benefit from ABS, change the contact surface conditions or situation to something less than favorable (dirt, rain, ice, panic stop in corner), and the number of people who are better off without it gets even smaller.
I've never had a bike with ABS before my RK, I've been riding street bikes for almost 30 years, and I'm an avid (expert) dirt biker, and I wanted ABS on the new bike I just purchased. Do I fit the description of a guy who can expertly brake and handle a bike in a slide if need be, I think so. But with the potential variables mentioned above, and add a passenger variable (I can only control my own body english), gives me reason to beleive the ABS could well be a benefit, even for an expert rider. YMMV
All that said, if I found the kind of deal the OP did, I would probably snap that deal up and enjoy the bike.
I'm certainly glad most of the idiots driving cars have ABS these days.

From the OP you and I fall into the same category been there done that. I still might grab the Street Glide and use it for trade for one with ABS . But I firmly believe ABS will help any rider in a grab a bunch of brake situation. To bad your on the left coast we should get together and have a beer. We would probably swap stories for hours

It's all good Pgh.
We all have our opinions and Lord knows I ain't generally gentle with mine!
Accepted 100% and please accept my apology in return.
I'm nicer than my keyboard allows me to appear.
If you can get that smoking deal why not pick it up and resell? Everyone else is selling '11 SG's for $19+.
I live in Vegas where people hit motorcycele cops and everyone else. It was a no brainer for me to shell out the extra money if it could potentially keep me from orphaning my family.
I didnt think It was a bid deal UNTIL my father and I where riding side by side and a deer ran out if front of us my bike stopped what felt like on a dime just had to use some muscle to keep bike upright while stopping my father in law locked it up and stopped about 20 feet after I did and we both started braking at the same time luckily the deer was in my part of the road or my father in law woulda been toast.
According to some readers here, if you would've hit those deer it would've somehow been your fault and you would've been an idiot.
if your being honest and not sarcastic , you probably are skilled enough , because you will be riding within your own ability , and thats where many riders and fall short ,
car drivers feel safe in there environment so become complacent and dangerous to the other road users
a bike rider who becomes complacent is a danger to themselves
Red9 makes some good points here. If a new rider thinks that ABS will make up for shorcomongs in good riding technique and safe riding practices, "using your head" they are in for a rude and painful shock. Certainly Red9 is dead on right about the drivers of 4x4's and SUV's!
This thread prompted some spirited discussion about the virtues, and occasional drawbawbacks, of ABS. Good information was provided from all points of view, and it's up to the individual to set their priorities and make their own choices.

A shining display of true character. Good for you brother.
