Just to clarify. the first recall on theEARLY 99 twin cam motors were the cam BOLTS. They were replaced on my bike in 99. The cam bearings were never a recall. There was a service bulletin that allowed the dealers to replace them along with the oil pump, the cams and a few others things.

There was also a service bulletin that called for a plate to be put in between the bearings on the bottom of the motor and the alternator. Very few of these upgrades were done. Mine had it done and it failed causing me to have to put in a new flywheel assembly last year.

Finally I have heard of a few cam bearings failing over the years but I have never heard myself of a catastrophic engine failure that resulted from the cam bearings failing. I have heard a lot of second hand stories of it happening but never anyone first hand. If someone here has experienceda catastrophic failure then I would really like to here it. Not someone I know, but the actual person that had it happen.

There have been first hand accounts of catastrophic engine failure caused by defective cam bearings in the early Twin cam engines posted on this and other forums. From low mileage to high mileage, from the actual owners and from HD mechanics. I've read them.If you want to here from the owners, it may be a good idea to start a new thread in the general HD chat area so as to get more hits. JMO

I have a 99 cop bike that I picked up in Dec 03. There isa service bulletin about the rear cam bearing going out. I did the research on my bike and it had already been complied with. The Front cam bearing was out on my bike when I picked it up. That was the reason for the research of cam bearing failure. I installed new cams oil pump and flushed the system. That was at 39k miles and I am at 51k now with noproblems other than sinking to much money into an older bike that I will keep forever.
