No idea what MPG I get (especially in US gallons!) but range is around 200 miles from brim full to warning light at highway speeds (say average 65-70 mph) from my 2010 Street Glide (stage 1 with SE air cleaner & V&H Monster Ovals).
Drops like a stone here at home on narrow roads with many twisty corners - seldom get to 6th. So many factors affect this.
My best economy ever was a day at Yellowstone at 35~40 mph and yielded over 55 MPG Mike
My best mileage was in Yellowstone as well, 50+, never see/saw that anywhere else, about 38 - 40 mpg, the way I ride (talking 2 up here) is as good as it gets.
,
I average between 30 (85mph) and 35(70mph) mpg on the highway. A 127 and a S&S makes for a thirsty combo. My 99 Electra Glide wasn't a whole lot better, though, especially at higher speeds.
Well not much I can tell you that hasn't been said but I would pull some of the bike apart look for a tuner, do a lil home work on who had the bike before you? That is how I found out the previous owner had pulled his some but not all his add-on's. I spent some coin getting it all sorted out. Plus if you are running in a cross wind solo, your king tour pak is acting like a massive sail causing a lot of drag. Add that with winter blend & the lowers & you are going to lose some mpg.
We have done two trips to CO thru KS, each on different bikes. Our '03 RK Std got just at 31 mpg thru KS, usually got from 38-41 in MO, chalked it up to wind that time. Next was on the '12 RGU, dropped from 43 to just at 34 and back up in CO just as on the '03. Corn gas, does not say has ethanol, states 91 Octane but is still corn gas and delivers crappy performance, bad mileage with a lot of pinging.
I had a completely stock 06 Ultra. If I kept the speed down around 55-60 mph, I got very good gas mileage. BUT, the faster I went, the worse mileage got. At 75 mph the fuel economy was downright dismal. You could almost watch the fuel guage drop.
...cannot figure why my stock 06 Ultra Classic with 21,000 miles can only get 31.
That's low even if conditions were not conducive to fuel economy, like a strong headwind. What is the tuning history of your bike? Is this the only time you've checked mileage, and if not was this trip lower than usual? It could be that it has a map or tune that is too rich in the cruise range, as you should be getting around 40mpg at 75mph, a bit higher if tuned for best mileage.
