Default Advice on Clutch Spring

Hello all,

Just finished putting in my SE 204 cams (2011 RKC 103 with FM 2-1-2, 4" Jackpots, AC and PV with custom map from Jamie). Can't wait for the salt to clear from the roads!

I've done a bunch of reading and in rough terms I expect I will be making 105-110 tq and mid 90's hp. What I am not sure about is whether I should be doing a clutch spring upgrade, as well. I'm thinking that if I do, I could just get the 37871-98A (tween stock and SE), but don't even want to do that unless recommended. Appreciate any input/advice here. Thanks.

I would just to avoid any potential slipping. Once that starts, it's all downhill.

I was in the same dilema.

About to install cams and wanted to upgrade the clutch spring. The only thing I had no idea which one to use.

After a lot of searching on this and other sites I settled on the -98A spring. I think the SE spring may be overkill and a little rough on the hand.

I had to order it, was surprised my dealer did not stock it.

I have almost the exact same setup (se255 cams instead of 204s) and have had no problem with clutch slipping....it seems I heard somewhere that the 103s have a different clutch spring in them from the factory...but I am not sure ...

Get the AIM Variable Pressure Clutch (http://www.aim-tamachi.com/product.p...&cat=18&page=1). It should be enough with your stock spring... But, it would be better to call them and ask them to recommend something.

I just installed the VP92T on my 96ci bike together with the 255 cams, headers and mufflers (I know it's probably an overkill but I prefer to be safe). The only time you can tell something is different with the clutch, is when you rev the engine and try to press the clutch lever. The higher the RPM the harder it is to pull the cluch lever.

You should be just fine. I just installed the spring that is in yours in my 107 FM build. The 98a is the next step up and you can always change it if need be, Jamie from F.M. said that it would hold my 122 #'s of torque, only time will tell.

my advice, get the SE. Ride it for a week and you won't even notice that much difference, it's not like you have to have lumberjack hands to squeeze it!! Well worth the $ for peace of mind - but as previous poster mentioned variable is a good way to go as well.

I added the SE one & the pull isn't that bad. I think it's something you would get used to fairly quickly.

I was going through a similar evaluation of options. While I am no expert on the subject, the 98a or the AIM 340 spring are probably solid "in between" springs.

I am waiting for my new clutch pack and spring to arrive from Energy One. For my build they felt strongly the 340 spring was more than enough. Incidentally Energy One makes the spring for AIM. They mentioned the fingers on their spring are radiused so the clutch pull is less than the HD springs, which have flatter fingers.
