Just installed the Harley oil cooler a couple of weeks ago and I was out in the garage getiing my 2008 Ultra ready to ride to Daytona and it was running at idle aand the EITMS came on and the oil temp on the guage was 160 I rolled the throttle to disable it and it idles fine. I have PCV with Fuel Moto map 255 cams screamin eagle air breather. It has never done this before and I have actually never heard the EITMS come on until now. has anyone else seen this happen?
the eitms is triggered by sensor in the head- so the head is hot ( 'cause you are not riding it) because that is where all the fire happens, but the oil is cool as the bike hasn't been running long enough with the rpms to get full volume and pressure through the system.
we idled the old bikes for awhile to get them up to temp, but evos and twin cams you really want to idle until the head is warm to the touch and then start riding it, as you ride the oil will help to stabilize temps through the motor and everything will nicely expand into place

long idle periods are not beneficial to the motor
Mike
Thanks for the reply Mike I didn't think it would get that hot at idle in a 40 degree garage but I also have never let it idle that long at one time either
Yep, oil temp has nothing to do with EITMS. From cold start up, 3-5 minutes idle will bring the CHTs up to a warmed up condition, another 3-5 minutes will put you in the range to activate EITMS.
With no cooling (air over the fins) it will heat up head temps while sitting. But rest of engine will not be at normal operation temp. Needs to be ridden for about 15 min or to hit regular operating temp.
