Harley started using the Engine Idle Tempature Management System (EITMS) in 2007

So it would probably be best to add an oil cooler. I've noticed that at idle for extended periods of time of being stuck in heavy traffic my bike takes on a funny idle pattern, but returns to normal when i start to throttle up. I have an anolog oil temp dipstick. I know they aren't that accurate but i have never seen the temp go above 250 degrees either. The temp management system was the only thing that came to mind for the condition i'm experiencing. Thanx.

Oil cooler wont hurt. An after market tuner that will richen the AFR will help reduce temps as well.

A 250 degree reading on the dipstick is Hot. The dipstick is only measuring the temperature of the oil in the bucket. The actual engine cylinder temp is probably 100 degrees higher. Hope you're running synthetic oil. My recommendation is:

-Get your bike properly tuned.
-Install an Oil Cooler.
