I tried twice for pictures but they would not turn out. The wire retainer goes in the middle grove of the rubber grommet and are formed to have downward pressure on them. The grommets were chewed up on mine and found a new HD set on e-bay half price. There are plastic after market ones but reviews said they are junk. I found that when installing the windshield to move it a bit to line up the brackets with the grove in the rubber piece other wise it will chew it up. When lined up it pushes on nicely. This is how mine is.

No. The top part of your bracket is seated in the rubber bushing groove when the windshield is on properly. The spring latch is slightly to the inside of the rubber bushings, about the width of the spring latch.

Mine is in the middle grove of the bushing, the wire catches from the back side to keep it from pulling forward.
