Default Spring latch on Road King windshields - useless.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't take those things off? They dont seem to hold anything in place, in fact they often make a rattling noise.

I'm talking part #7 here: http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....dmc&A=759&B=44

if you are fixing your windscreen permanently, you can remove the latching hardware. this involves a hardware swap.

Mine latch down pretty solid. Perhaps new rubber spacers are needed?

Over time, those springs get bent out of shape. You can bend them back down, or loosen the acorn nut and move them back into place so they're actually doing some good. They should lock down, and you pull them up to release the windshield. They're a periodic maintainance item.

Get the Brukus security set-up. The OEM stuff is garbage. A friend and I were going across the Mackinaw Bridge in a pretty stiff wind, and on his RK, the wind nearly took that windshield off his scoot and into the channel. The Brukus stuff is high quality and keeps it from getting stolen, as well. FWIW.

If a good gust of wind should dis-lodge the shield those clips would catch the backside of the grommet. One time I failed to completely press the shield into place (phone interruption) and when I stopped at the end of my drive...the wire clips caught the shield from falling onto the fender. That's when I figured out what they were good for

The wind was so strong here tuesday it blew my windshield off my bike into the opposite lane of traffic. I was setting at a light in the left turn lane. It blew off. I shut the bike off, put the side stand down and went and grabbed it just before on coming traffic smashed it.
I had just bent the latches down further to ensure this didn't happen. I have the scratches on it to remind me that It doesn't work very well. I'd do the Brukus security set-up, but I'm a cheap SOB. Any cheaper alternatives?
