Yes. They make you realize someone cares about you. Now the, I'll buy you one if you buy me one doesn't work. Personally I think that is how they are supposed to work. From a loved one is best.
I had a woman put a gremlin bell on my bike once ..the first week I ran over 12 gremlins...it turns out she put it on backwards so instead of repelling them it attracted them...now that's the kind of luck I have!
Don't know if they work or not, but they are survivors. Sunday I hit a piece of 25# steel made out of 1/2" plate steel at about 60 MPH. Launched the bike about 3 ft. in the air. Took out the oil cooler, bent the frame in two places, tore out the left side muffler, rear brake pedal and reservoir, broke the front wheel and blew the tire, and some other stuff. The bell was hanging on the frame right where the down tube comes down. It is still there doing it's thing.
I was able to ride out the crash and didn't go down, but I attribute that to the "Grace of God" and not a little brass bell.

Since adding my first Gremlin Bell no parts have fallen off, or ever broken down while riding.
Two years ago, one month after buying my first touring bike. we lost both shifting pegs in Hattiesburg, Ms at same time on our trip from Fl to Ark. of course it was a Holiday and at dusk...couldn't find either one, they must have went down storm drains. Damn gremlins! Thankfully their was a tattoo shop near by that was open and loaned me a couple.
So my wife bought my first one the next day in LR. We made it home without incident.
She gave me another one for my B'day last Aug. Then my daughter & grandson gave me one each at last X-mas.
I now own 4 and Gremlins are so pissed! they started attacking me off the bike. Thinking about strapping couple to my boots or making a necklace.

Whatever floats your boat. I can see the bell; just sayin'.
I dunno; soft landing in the mud and nothing looks bent? I'd say it worked perfectly! Had the exact same thing happen to me when I fell ASLEEP on my Evo doing about 60 mph and ran off the road. My Gremlin Bell worked perfectly that day as I woke up and walked away with nothing broken. :-) True story btw.
