I do, however, believe in the power of friendship.
There are no less than 12 bikes out there right now belonging to very close friends with bells I have provided for them. MOST I have installed myself for them. A couple had to be mailed because miles separate us.
I say if you are fortunate enough to have a friend give you one, put it on.
If nothing else, you will think of him or her every time you see it or hear it ring....
Many years ago I was told the bell was first used during the early days of the Sturgis Rally as a discreet method for those of, let's say, a different sexual preference to identify each other.
Over the years the bell has been unknowingly and mistakenly adapted by the mainstream rider.
And to answer the OP's question, I was told they really did work! My story and I am sticking to it!
Oh, and just to be clear about this! There are NO bells on my bikes!!
