My 01 EGC has the old cassette head unit which needless to say sucks (with loud slurping sounds) but I like the handle bar controls. I'd like to switch it out with a newer stock CD unit and I know it would be too much to ask that it's just a plug and play swap. What kind of hoop jumping and reengineering will I have to do to get one to work with my handle bar controls? Once that's in place I'll add an amp and speakers.
Tell you the truth, most(myself included) only use IPODS any more.
CD's are a PIA.
Cassettes have went the way of 8 tracks and their predecessors the 4 tracks.
Then again I still have about 1000 vinyl records that are in mint shape that I think are still valuable even though I rarely listen to them any more.

I just played a cassette last night, that is 20 years old. No skipping. I have 1 year old CDs that skip. I had a MP3 player last year that worked great, til I cleaned the bike for winter, and lost it!
So this year I take my CDS, put them on the computer and burn CD mixes. I am going to keep them in a case away from my kids, on my bike.
Good luck on your project. Let us know how it works out.

Get the Garmin 665. You will get sirius/xm and a MP3 player in addition to the GPS. Very easy touch screen that mounts to the handlebars and you plug it into the Aux port and the volume is handled from the stock controls.
