Default IDS question

What are the benefits of IDS? When did HD start to offer IDS?

Thanks Jim

it came out as an add on in late 07,lots af complaints of drivline noise,in 08 it was standard but used the add on kit,09 it was incorporated in the wheel.it absorbs shock loads in the driveline.smoother quieter ride.

Would this be a worthwhile add to my 07 SG?

it was offered more for noise control- donny peterson wrote an interesting article in american iron about this, drivetrain harmonics were quelled with the addition of IDS.

Of course this Harley inovation is on my 77 Honda 90, 74 Kawsaki Z1A and '74 Norton.

So late to the party.

in my experience, Id be fine with out it, 1 less thing to wear and get sloppy

I put one on my 07 RG and regret it. Checked the first bearing at about 25k miles and it was about to fail. Changed it out (supposedly with an "improved" bearing), and the second failed on the road at about 19k miles. Went back to stock.

I paid the $300 for the IDS. Due to the wheel bearing failure rate in the IDS (I changed them twice) I took it off and haven't put it back on. If Harley comes out with a more reliable bearing, I'll put it back on.

Had mine on for about 30k now and like it better than stock config. I have seen many posts about failure of these but have checked mine at varous times (including two weeks ago while getting a new set of E3's) and no problems at this point.
It did smooth out the ride and lessen the racket coming up at me but I probably would not change it out now unless I had a problem with it.

Yup.....
Installed mine at around 3,000 miles 35+ now...
I installed the bearings myself , no big deal.....

Never had a problem with it
One of the BEST comfort mods I installed, Yes it evens out a little bit of the "chugging effect" and the reduced noise in 5th gear to me is a bonus...

got mine off a trike conversion from an '08 cost me a whoping 75.00 only had 50 miles on it back in 2007
