At $175 + shipping direct from the company they cost half what my V & H did, and they sound much, much better. True Harley sound, deep but not sharp. A rumble at idle that grows steadily with rpm. My Ultra has true dual, and the 2" baffles with good packing make it a "just right" blend of deep Harley sound that isn't too loud or obnoxious for long touring. My '08 police 103 has stock head pipes, and I went with 2 1/2 baffles and good packing. A ploice bike needs to have a little more "presence" to put it politely, and mine kind sounds like Darth Vader's bike sounds (if Darth Vader had a bike, that is!).

The Wild Pig Pipes have held up well since I got them a year ago. The only thing I found with them is that the packing that comes installed from the factory is pretty flimsy, so before installing them just pull the baffles and repack them with good quality packing. The baffles are so easy to pull that it takes a 1/2" socket and an allen wrench and 30 seconds once you get the hang of it. if you don't like the baffles you ordered from the company and want to go up or down in size, just call 'em and you get alive person on the phone. They ship you a new set, no fuss, and and 2-3 days later your in business. The reverse slash cut looks great on my Ultra. They are a great "cheap" alternative worth looking into.

They are my FIRST choice from now on.
I was at the factory last week getting the pieces for my custom exhaust set up on my current build. I live less than 5 miles from where they are made.

2nd that! I just installed the 3.5" Dyno Tuned Jackpots on a Cobra head pipe! Sounds OUTSTANDING!

They don't have the panache of Vance & Hines or Rienhart, etc., but they look great, are well made, sound awesome and are 1/2 the price of the established names in the slip on market. As I wrote in my post, when you call you get a real person on the line who deals with you-customer service A+. Can't beat it!

If his budget is $300 then he can have the choice of just about any brand if he is willing to buy used. If he wants new slipons then his choices are limited. I agree with the recommendation for the Wild Pigs. Nice deep rumble and loud but not too loud.

--- I think your Pal should go to a bike night or other event and see what he likes for sound, some pipes will appear 'too loud" others "too quiet".

Goldilocks will spend wisely by getting the pipes that sound "just right".

Riders play muffler bingo more than they swap seats.

plenty of lightly used exhaust on the classifieds at a bargain.

2.) if his bike is 2010+ model the cat in the header has a much larger effect on sound than the muffler- so start there with either a new header pipe or "gutting the cat" in his ( budget $100 for a welder, photo tutorial available if your search).

some riders report satisfactory result with the stock mufflers once the cat in gone.

which can be a great budget solution

this requires some DIY, other wise, just call a shop, order some parts and open the wallet wide, some guys spend over $1000 for full service exhaust swap

too loud is a real bummer if you like the radio or plan on riding all day
