New Flhx lands this week and still not sure about seat. Planned on getting 2 seats solo/2up. Ordered a hammock for my first try at the 2 up seat that satisfies me and the boss. Wanted to get an adjustable back rest but was told by dealership that I can not take off hammock and put on solo seat as mounting kit will be in way. Was told to get a normal backrest and could take off seat & back rest and put on solo. Called C&C last week to order seat and was told that normal HD mounting bracket will be in way. None of there seats would fit.
Am 6'2 290 ....riding the stock demo & seat made me feel like my ***** were on the gas cap. Need to get pushed back and hopefully down.
I have ordered mini apes for it.
80% riding is solo, going to work etc. no crazy 5000 miles journeys planned yet. Just day tripping every 2nd/3rd weekend with wife.
Suggestions.........and no I am not trading in for a RG.
Thanks for your help, first HD want to get it right the first time
Sorry for spelling " need help with new Flhx "

Reason: It's 2am
Why not get a solo with passenger pillion? I got the Mustang Solo and Passenger pillion for the wife. Can pull the pillion and backrest off when I am solo and with the Mustang I can outlast the tank of gas.
some seats that put you father back and down also change your hip angle--- how's your hips?
instead of dropping a foot off the board to the ground, the foot has to be lifted and rotated to the ground.
this also puts your entire upper body weight solely on your rear, not condusive to long range
moving you the father back and down may also require bar change ( $$) and may not work so well when you put the hammock on
just something to think about.
the local dealer should have a "fit shop" where you can try seat, bar, control combinations.
this may save you some time and from buying a whole bunch of seats hoping for the good one.
The HD Sundowner is not a solo seat, but you may find that it is a good compromise between riding solo and putting on the hammock.
the H-D backrest will work with both
most solos seats use a T shaped bracket at the rear which uses the same mounting points as the H-D backrest- this is what you are running up against when you talk to seat guys
2.) most bikes which have a full sized seat get scuffed rear fender which is revealed with solo if seats are swapped back and forth, the full size seat can be shaped on teh bottom, to ensure that it contacts the frame rails, not the fender

I havent mucked about with my FLHX but have with plenty of others, Road King's etc. Its amazing how much a handlebar, seat, floor board combination can change the ridability. If you are definitely getting the apes maybe you could fit those first then try the bike for fit. Sometimes you think you need "A" but find "B" would have worked better.
