There is a LAW that says they have to prove that pulling a trailer (or something you did) caused the problem before they can deny the claim. It may take you a while fighting them to get your bike fixed but the proof will be on them.
If you have a good dealer, and approach it nicely...you probably will never have an issue. I would not go to the dealer pulling the trailer...I know the hitch will be there but can they prove you ever pulled a trailer or used it for one of those cooler holders that hang off the back of the bike?
I did not buy the ESP...past experince with one on a Volvo when I was younger taught me a lesson about ESP.
