Another Garmin wired off the switched headlight leads. Your factory Garmin direct wire power cable should be both fused and have a voltage converter. Wires run up the bars and it’s about as clean as you can get with a bar mount. I have never had a garmin fuse blow, if you did it's a sign something is wrong with the install.

I have my Garmin 550 mounted on the left side handle bar with a custom black plate. I ran the power wire through my new WO576 bars and wired it into the head light. It had an extra hook up just for things like this. The power wire already had a fuse with it. Basicly the same as mentioned above.

I followed the HD instructions and connected it to the 5 amp accessory fuse in the fuse panel. More complicated install but this spot was made for this type of accessory. Comes on with the key. No issues.

Just did mine yesterday. Ebay, type in hardwire gps garmin. Youll see some. Cut, soldered, and heat shrink into the cig lighter wire. No fuse as the circut is already fused. As the location of my GPS partially blocked the fuel gauge, while I was in there, I swaped the location of the air temp gauge with the gas gauge.
