Question Different Handle bars for 09 SG

I just got a 09 SG late last year and after riding it for awhile I want to get some different handle bars that bring my hands up and more level. I'm 5'9" and from what I've been reading here on the forums I think I want 12" monkey bars or apes. Does that sound about right? What is the difference between "monkey bars" and regular "Apes"? Are the monkey bars the ones with the point at the top of the bars before the bars go out to were the grips are? Thanks!

Okay....I think I've figured it out. These are the bars I want! Next question is will I need to change out the clutch, brake and throttle cables? Thanks!

Don't particularly like those bars but if that's what you want, go for it. The first time I need to remove my fairing I will be replacing the handlebars as well.

Open to other options. Any suggestions? I need to find a bike in person with a similar type of bars to get a better feel for them.

I have that set up. 8 over on clutch and plus 4 on the brake. you will need the lower frt brake too. Stock Harley is one piece.
I am 6ft 3in and 12s are perfect.

For your height you may want to consider 10". You are right, the best thing would be to sit on a bike for comparison.

Before you spend any money, have you tried adjusting your current bars? I found mine were too high for me and caused discomfort, but after a few minor adjustments, hey presto! We fit like a glove and everything is fine. You say yours are too low, but they can be raised very easily by slacking off the clamps - much easier and cheaper than changing bars!

You will no regret the apes. Monkey bars are apes. Yaffe call his monkey bars, but its just a different design of apes. I have Cyclesmith bagger bars and they are the best thing I have done to my bike. I admit I did it for looks, but figured out very quickly that they are way more comfortable. I have 13" and would not go any less. Yaffe 12's are actually slightly taller than my 13's. Go figure

I have a set of chrome monkey bars in my signature picture but for some reason it doesn't show when I respond from my phone. Anyway im 6' and got 12's wish I would have got 14's. Harley now sells a wiring set up for 122012 inch bars that are made to fit their 12 inch apes they sell. U may want to ask your dealer about those. Also wild1 has a little more pull back to and may fit better depending on arm length

Great choice. I have the Paul Yaffe Apes in 12''. Just remember the Yaffes run high. So a 12'' is like a 14''. I have 12'' Yaffe apes and they run over the fairing. The points are right at or above windshield. Its no issue. I know a lot of guys who dont want them that high to so they can be below the fairing for wind cover. Its not an issue.

Check out my thread about my bike being done to get an idea of the size you want.

If you never did apes before I would suggest a shop run the wires at least OR If you order directly from Yaffe I think his guys can do it before they ship. it is a PITA from what I have heard. Flat out horror stories.

Good luck.
