Get some flexible screen cloth to cover the air box and pipes. Use zip ties to secure it in place. I get to ride all winter here in SC, but saw that trick posted over on the FJR site.
We store our RV in a shed out in the country. There is mouse poison in a few spots in the shed and we buy a box of fabric softener sheets and place one in every cabinet and scatter a few around on the floor. Never a mouse problem and they smell better than moth *****. Try sticking a few sheets around on your ride next winter.
+1 on the fabric softener. Downy original sent works best. Use in in our motorhome and on bike (in bags, under winter cover ....). Keeps em away and does not leave mothball smell. Of course a fer D-Cons and sticky traps in the areas does them in for good.
I just think it's funny that the o.p. PAID the dealer, for sumpin' that is a very EASY fix...IF he only had the gumption & desire to take the hot damn fairing off himself......He prolly has a garage with NO tools, NO shop manual, and a shiny scooter to impress his friends & neighbors!!

I am the OP and I'm a union electrician IBEW and come w/ my own tools. Installed the J&M amp and speakers myself...but there is a known problem w/ the HK stereos. Not to mention, my bike went in 4/ potential warranty claims at the same time. 2010 FLHX bought new w/ just shy of 26K on her now. Not too bad for a guy who lives in New England that can't ride all year! Been to Jackson Hole and I actually rode mine to Sturgiss. No $$ was paid to dealer and starter is being replaced under warranty. Usually, it's the guys that talk big that have the garage queens...that's my experience anyway!!
years ago I witnessed a shotgun blast of dogfood out the pipes of my brothers old panhead when he fired it up for the first time in the spring, pretty damn funny at the time.
