I was once heading to the Outer Banks, NC from Maine - somewhere in Maryland my speedo cable broke on my 99 FLHT. Since I always carried a spare (they liked to break near the wheel hub) I pulled into a church parking lot to replace. I pulled the fairing off and lo and behold, a mouse nest on top of the stereo, momma mouse staring at me and 4 babies tucked in nicely. (I am not claiming the mouse broke the cable - coincidence). Got rid of the nest, replaced the speedo cable, taped up the wiring the mouse had partially chewed thru and back on the road within 30 minutes. I call it the "Maine wildlife relocation program". The perimeter of my garage (inside) is lined with poison every winter now.
