Default How much for a new paint job on an Ultra?

Wise ones - wrecked the bike two weeks ago just in time to hurry up and wait for the riding season. I have spent more time on here wishing I was out riding than I'd like to consider. I appreciate the knowledge base and community that is HDforums

Anyway, the indy shop that I'm having it fixed at is offering a new paint job for the whole bike for an extra $700. I really trust these guys, but as much as I'd love a new paint job (it's an 01 Ultra) - I need adequate fodder to convince the OL it's a good deal... so is it?

depends on what your doing. When a painter paints the whole bike its actually easier then just the parts because he doesn't have to match anything. I have had alot I mean alot of **** painted this last year. and my painter said it would have been cheaper for him to do the whole bike all at once. I asked how much he said $2200 would get you a factory style paint job with nice pinstripe lines and some custom looks. and $3500 would turn your bike into a airbrushed goddess. I currently have $1600 in paint this year $500 in inner fairing and speaker lids+ $1000 I'm stretched bags and fender. And he has my new tank and some other small parts right now as we speak.

To answer your question though have them do it. The whole bike if you trust them. but involve your OL if she is interested and it might save you a little grief. lol

In October of 08 went down (Hit a Bear) My painter did the front faring with a nice picture and got rid of all the pinstripes for $600 bucks.

Just for thought... I had the wifes Softail custom painted a few years ago, I did all the disassembly and re-assembly, Paint alone cost me almost 3000.00 And the Deluxe only has 3 parts...Tanks, and fenders..

700.00 for a complete paintjob is a very good price, as long as its a decent job. I would have to assume its single color, and not a metal flake, but still a very good price. More parts on the Ultra...

Sounds almost too cheap to be true! Can he show you a bike he's painted recently? If I am successful with a few tricks I am playing with I will need a complete repaint, but I cannot imagine getting it done for as little as that. If you have any genuine Harley decals, they can be quite expensive.

In the early 90’s I had my 1986 FLTC painted. The painter worked for a car dealer and painted bikes at the dealer’s paint shop after hours. He charged me $700.00 for solid black with red pin stripes, tank and tour box decals clear coated.

I was very happy with the cost. I never put the fairing back on. I modified the bike to a FLHS.

This is a photo of the finished job while I was on a 2002 trip.

Paint supplies are expensive any more, I can only assume this is a price for a solid single color. I recently painted my wife's trike witch would have about the same surface area as your ultra maybe a little more and had about 700 dollars in the paint materials alone, but I did use some pearl and candy and a lot of coats. This price if you trust your indy and even if it is a single color seems very reasonable to me.

Since you said you laid it down, I'm guessing you are already painting most of the big parts (ie, fairing, bag, tank, fender) so the primer, paint, hardner, clear ect. are already bought. The other 700 would mostly be in prepping the other parts, and I'm sure the old paint is sun faded and chipped and knicked. Unless your wife is the only one with a job or your on welfare, paint the whole bike. Most of the materials are already paid for.
