I</SPAN>haveachargingproblemwhenthetemperatureistohot.</SPAN> In the morning everything is OK, the battery is charging well. But when the temperature come hot the bike stop charging. any one have seen the same problem?
Thank you! Mike
That is how mine started. Then it started doing it even when it was cold. The replaced the V/R from a brand new bike that came in with fender damage.
I took mine in tonite for replacement on a 12 street glide, there was another guy there for the same problem, they replaced the regulators while we waited, the service manager said he starting to see more of them,it was undercharging then overcharging, turning engine and battery light on more so when hot.
Some have had faulty voltage regulators. Any solid state piece of equipment can go out at any time or last forever.
HD replaces them under warranty. You can be sure that they are taking the matter up with the supplier.
That regulator has been on HD's for years and across many different models. This is the first for any issue.
HD replaces them so what is the deal? Bash HD because of a vendor supplied parts that until now has been very successful. It takes a very small minded individual to do that.
If it were my friend, I would re-evaluate the matter.
I've been watching my volt gauge since I first read about this problem. I'll bring my bike in at the first sign of trouble, damned if I get stuck with a dead battery. The real issue will be when (or if) people start reporting 2nd and 3rd failures, then we'll know it's a real big problem.
there is definitely a voltage regulator problem. mine crapped out on my '12 classic at 4k--happened to be 400 miles from home. nearest dealer was 250 miles away. wrecker hauled bike there--dealer said he had replaced a bunch of regulators on the touring models. since then, i have had two other dealerships tell me the same thing is happening on a regular basis.
the MOCO is not going to issue a re-call...admitting they know there is a problem and not doing anything would leave them open to liability for all of our expenses incurred from the bad regulators stranding us. typical corporate cover-your-***.
