I am starting to experience the same problem where my charging lamp began to stay illuminated in the last 60 or so miles of my most recent ride. This makes me very nervous. My 2012 FLSTC has approximately 2100 miles on it. I am taking it into the shop this week to have them look at problem.
Seems like the MOCO is bound and determined to cheap-out on everything without regard for their customers. Nothing new about that though. More and more sorry Chinese junk on these bikes. Pitiful!
I know two so far that were dead in the parking lot because of the regulators, a CVO ultra and a Street glide both 12's.
"Dead in the parking lot"? No previous indication, just dead? Interesting ......... Hmmmmmm, well, I must be one of the lucky ones, 8,000 miles on the Street Glide and charging right along ..... Of course, all the '12 owners I know also have not had a problem, so I guess maybe we just live in a lucky state! Haha!
Just got the regulator from J&P. Into the saddle bag it went. Ready to travel.
Patch kit, qt. oil, tools, compressor, battery charger, fuses, oil cloth to lay out under the bike if I drop a part and yes I'm ****. On the Alaska trip besides the charger I carried a new battery. No need to do that in more populated areas. One son will have a huge container of tools the other will have the 1 gal gas container that is fitted to the inside of the saddle bag. GPS and HD big atlas, $ and credit cards. I'm thinking of adding a tow strap in case we need to pull a bike up out of a ditch.
Some folks bitch and moan, some take care of business.
First hot days around here and my bike engine and battery lights came on. I took to a dealer on a cool day but it was fine then. Told me to come in when its failing. $24000 head ache. 2012 Ultra Limited
