I have an 06 flhtpi with a Sony marine radio and 5 1/4 hertz speakers in the fairing. I'm installing kuryakyn speaker lids. They recommend the kicker 871 amp, but not for $500. I was thinking about the Rockford fosgate pbr 300x4. The thing I'm worried about is the hertz speakers are 3ohm and the amp is 4ohm. I don't know much about amps will this combo work. I also am having trouble finding info on the kicker speakers in the lids but I think they are 4ohm. Thanks
I run the HERTZ 6.5 High Energy which are also 3ohm with the Rockford Fosgate as well. The speaker wire adds resistance which will make the speakers 4ohm. The speakers actually read about 3.6 to 3.7 ohm without speaker wire. You will be fine with that setup.
how much better are the hertz speakers over stock? I got a ultra ...supposed to have a amp ....I cant tell a damn bit of difference with that switch tho
I have a police bike so it didn't have a stereo. I added a biktronics kit, radio and speakers so I can't compare. The hertz speakers were an upgrade from the hog tunes speakers. It may just be under powered.
The amp is easy to install use high level input. Cut off the RCA plugs run your speaker wires from the head unit to the amp. the hardest part will be taking apart the fairing and gas tank removal. A couple of hours at the most.
The HERTZ speakers make a world of difference if running a 4ohm
amp. The stock speakers are just stock speakers. Good for selling on the showroom floor not good on the road. The Hertz speakers like to be driven so I put 100 watts RMS through each speaker. I do not know how they sound with a stock head unit. The stock radio is 2ohm.
I have an aftermarket Sony.
