Since HD rerouted the exhaust back in '09, I would think heat deflectors would be a moot point. Interesting...
the "curve" of the rear cylinder exhaust is different on my StreetGlide (2010) than that of my GF's 2009 Deluxe........both are hot and the deflectors for each really DO HELP!
I just installed a set a few weeks back. Won't know how much difference they make until the temps go up, which won't be long here in AZ. I wish I would have thought of the paint match before I installed them. Install was a bit challenging so I have no desire to remove them any time soon. Maybe when I do the inner fairing.

It was getting near 80 degrees here yesterday, really nice, and not nearly as hot as it will get later this summer but I could DEFINATELY FEEL the difference with the deflectors in place.
The install is a bit tricky for sure and I had to go buy longer screws for where the mount point is right behind the gas tank...dont know why, but did. I am with you, I am not eager to remove them and/or re-install. Knucklebusters!
By contrast the set for the Deluxe went on without any problems easy-peasy!
