I know this has been beaten to death by now but........I have oil coming from my air cleaner. I'm running a SE with a KN filter on an 09 SG. I've read the other posts about the problem and done what was suggested. I've cleaned the filter and re oiled it (careful not to over oil). I've checked the oil level in the motor and it isn't over filled. It is below the full mark. Is there anything else that could be causing this?
There are many different theories as to what causes the problem. Some bikes have more oil carry-over than others, but what I have found to be the best cure is the new stamped steel breathers(part #17025-03A). I've installed these on four different customer's bikes and it has made a huge improvement on everyone of them. It does require that you remove rocker box covers to change them, but it is worth the trouble.
one obvious thing to check is the breather, or umbrella valves in the rocker boxes.
they are known to fail (like any other part over time of course), and allow oil into the breather ports.
if you're a DIY'r, isnt rocket science to do, simple enough following the steps in manual
I don't know, I run the oil right up to the full line and not it's uncommon for it to be slightly higher than full and I don't have excessive amounts backing up into the AC. With that said, if I had the problem, I would be looking at the umbrella valve as the culprit. Or fashion a collection bottle like I had on my Metric bike..man that bike would **** oil into the bottle geeeezus.
