Started the Speaker / Amp install today. The MM651 speakers with the Hawg Wired adapters fit in the RGC fairing with about 1/2" -3/4 " to spare. The adapters have an offset built in and positioned to have the speakers closer to the radio. Now I need to make an amp mount and get that mounted before wiring the system. Chris
Why not use velcro and mount the amp on top of the radio, I've been using the set up for the past 5 years, first Hawgwired and now Rockford, never had a problem with over 50k miles.

I'm sure velcro would work to mount the amp, but I wanted an air gap around the amp. Used a heavy duty velcro to put the crossovers on top of the radio .
I ended up making a mount that I've seen other forums members use. It mounts the amp to the left side and uses 2 of the main fairing mount bolts. The amp sits approx. 1/2" ( used stiff rubber hose on the mounting bolts between the bracket and amp ) off the metal mount to allow some air to circulate. So far everything is going smoothly, just need to wire the inputs and outputs on the speakers and I'm done!! Tomorrows another day and should finish it in time for a weekend ride.
I'm suppose to be getting my amp and speakers in today. I will be starting my install this week. Wish me luck. I'm thinking about drilling a small hole in the adapter and running a small rubber tube down the triple tree to allow the water to drain out of the fairing and not into the fairing.
Sorry but not to hijack your thread... has anyone used the MM651UM in the lower fairing with CVO speaker pods...?Thanks for any advice. Oh yeah you will very happy with your setup when its installed.
No they will not. Could not get them to fit in my Fairing on the lowers, the back of the speaker with the crossovers are to big. Was almost a $100 mistake on my part after ordering 2 sets and having to ship them back and restocking fee.
Well, I finally installed my PBR300x2 and MM651s in my 2012 SG. I can tell you to make sure if you mount it on top of the radio to push it was far forward as you can.
It's sounds great. I have my gain at 5. However, I can't turn up the volume passed half way on some songs without getting a lot of distortion. This brings up a question I have. I know know I need to turn down the gain to probably 3 or 4, but why am I getting so much distortion. Most songs I can turn up to about half way maybe a little more before the distortion starts. Some songs I get major distortions before haldway. Yes, this is a MP3 cd with about 100 songs on it. The cd did not sound too bad on the stock speakers with no amp. Why now. Yes, some songs are downloaded. Maybe that it. Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.
You have the gain set too high. Gain does not equal loudness. Start with the gain at one and turn it up till it starts to distort at full volume then back it down till its clear.
Thanks guys. i will have to reset it. I just installed the amp and speakers and was too excited to hear it on the road. I have a TSO cd which has a great range of freq in the songs to test the amp and speakers. TSO = Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
I will let you know how it turns out.
