Follow up on yesterday's post. Stripped bolt on caliper rear ABS brakes. I am unable to get pin out! If I have to remove caliper to have machinist (buddy of mine) get it out, can I clamp brake hose just before caliper to prevent air in line then disconnect caliper. Then after reconnect use a vacume pump to get air out of caliper. I guess I'm asking if clamping the hose would work to prevent me from having to do a full purge and needing to have dealer do computer bleed. I have ultra classic 08 with ABS.
Thanks guys.
The have reinforced linings in the hoses and they have a number of linings. Clamping will cause a local breakdown of the reinforced lining and also promote delamination of the various layers
Probably too late to help but you can try applying the brake about 1/3-1/2 of the way, and locking it there. Use a block of wood or strap to the crash bar whatever it takes to hold the pedal in place. That should keep the fluid from draining out of the master cylinder. It works on cars so should work on bikes too.. You'll still have some drips but shouldn't empty the master cyl.
