I've been looking in the HD catalog at the Premium Ride Hand Adjustable Low Touring Shock 54680-10. The catalog state they fit 09-later. Can anyone tell me if they will fit on a 08 FLHX and if not, why not? I have seen other brand shocks (Ohlins, Progressive and others) fit earlier years to 2012. I know the frame changed in 09 but would this be a reason the shock won't fit? Thanks in advance for any help.

Good question considering I put 2010 OEM shocks on a 2005 RG.
Maybe it's the way the compression and rebound damping work, and the swingarm isn't beefy enough to handle the separated actions. But I bet they would bolt right up....... if you don't mind twisting your swingarm

its not that the shocks won't fit on the bike - they will. its that the frame was changed and made stiffer and these shocks are tuned for the new frames. I'm sure Harley is just playing CYA when they say for 09 and later bikes - BUT - its possible that the shocks may be too stiff for the older frame. FWIW, I have the 13" version on my 2012 Streetglide and like them a lot.
Thats a good point that the way they are made , 1 being the preload shock and the other the with different dampening they probably put more stress on the swing arm and could twist the older bikes swing arm or frame.
