Default Concerned with overheat

Are there any tell tale signs your bike is getting ready to overheat? I was riding home in So. Fla last week and had to stop for train that went on forever. The 01 UC was getting pretty damn hot. Since I saw no end in site for the train, I shut the bike off. Was told by some not good to do. Any other advice on riding in high 80 close to 90 degree weather would be appreciated.

Someday I'll figure out how to post a picture.

Thanks

More miles than you would believe on Hd never had one melt yet.
I been looking for the one that melted still can not find it.
Not that big a deal.

I've spent 2 hours to travel 2 miles in Chicago rush hour/construction in 95+ temps. left bike running the whole time (traffic would move 20 ft every few minutes) and not an issue. the two non-HD bikes with me had all sorts of problems. I just let the bike idle, didn't play with the throttle so everyone could hear how cool I am. Don't worry about it. If you've ever checked out the R&D facility, these things go thru much worse than a long idle on a hot day.

I shut mine down on long waits to but you may want to put a oil temp gauge in the fairing were that air temp gauge is and if you are still worried you can send some of that 80 - 90 temps up here to Mich , thanks
