I'm going on a long ride in a few months from VA to MI and i was wondering about a security system. Any recommendations? The only system i'm familiar with is the HD system. Any recommendations? Thanks
I have the '12 Limited so I have factory security. I have also added the factory siren. I was gonna do the Radio Shack siren but I like the fact that the HD system/siren has a battery back up- I did test this as one day I was working on the bike and removed the main fuse- the siren started blaring- so I would say that the factory system is adequate. I am sure there are others out there and it would just depend on how much you want to spend. The bottom line is if they want it bad enough they will get it

And that's it, in a nutshell. But, if you're in a motel and miscreants try to screw with the bike, you're in a position to react, if you have the pager. Relying on the fork lock won't help - you won't know what happened till morning. The knuckle-draggers can lift your bike up into the bed of a pickup and be off with it in a heartbeat, unless there's something that attracts attention to their misdeeds and gives you some warning something's going on. It's up to you what to do at that point. Call 911 to get someone to come and take a theft report; take your own steps if you want to actually prevent things from happening.
Solution? The alarm system. It's not fool-proof, but it's a LOT better than nothing.

Ok I am the **** one of the group. If you want to sleep well get the smart siren 2 and the pager. I installed the siren on the bike(very easy) the pager works well. Even when the bike is at the hotel I always go out for a smoke check on the bikes.
But when it is time to sleep it is easier. One word of advice for us Canadians when you purchase the Smart siren if not set up from he factory it will not cherp(beep) upon turning your bike off if you want it to.On the Canadian Bike manual it does not tell you how to turn it on or off> It is a 3 step set up very easy...My Harley dealer had to get the USA bike manual as it explains this set up.
