Default A weird one...

So after a recent 1,000 mile trip I decide to wash the bike today. Ride my '09 Streetglide to the local spray wash and do my thing. Afterward, start bike ride home, bike running great and shining like new. About an hour later go out to take a little ride for dinner. Bike starts and idles perfect but engine light comes on. Blip the throttle, nothing. Hold throttle wide open will only rev to about 1900 rpms. WTF??? A TBW issue? Any thoughts on where to start? Could I have got something electronic wet washing the bike? As I said, rode bike home from car wash with no problems. Rode through a lot of hard rain on my trip too with no problems I doubt it's a water issue. Anyone know how to get code on engine light?

I'd say it's probably not the best to wash your scoot @ carwash. Pressure + water = bad...sure something got wet that shouldn't. Let bike dry out good & it will probably clear...

It sounds like TBW went into Limp mode. As to how to fix it, I have no idea. But I never spray any water with more pressure than a garden hose. Water probably got it some connector someplace and made it act funny.

Make sure engine run switch is in the on position. Hold down the odo reset button while you turn the ignition **** to on. You will see the needles on the gauges go all the way over then back down. You will then see "diag" in the odo readout. You need to push the odo reset button in to cycle through each section PSSTB or something like that. Once the P is flashing, push in and hold for 5 seconds. You will see either "none" or a code. If you get a code, you push it in and hold for 5 seconds to clear the code. Just write down the code so you can look them up. Push in again to either get another code in that section or cycle to the S and so on.

Get a can of compressed air and start gently unsnapping the conectors by your throttle body and blow out any water in them. I'd unsnap and pull apart any conector in the engine area where you took that high pressure wand and pulled the trigger. I know it ran fine and yadda yadda but you definitely got water in some place. Good luck. That sucks.

Listen to Dawg. He knows. I'm just saying ( not knowing) but that's what I'd do.

Suggest the connector at the Throttle Body.
I have removed the connector on my bike, cleaned with contact cleaner and added Dielectric Grease to my connector. Oh did this as preventative maintenance, I have not had the problem but heard many complain about this connection point.

I agree Harleys and car washes dont play nice.

Thought I would sneak out early before others got up on a multi day trip to wash some particularly heavy bugs off my '05 RK.

I was careful and only intended and did only use the sprayer as a convenient water source. Dryed off and was on my way smugly enjoying the only clean bike in the group.

Well about 5 miles down the road I started hearing a God awful noise. When I pulled in the clutch the sound changed. I pulled over and discovered that water had gotten into the wire connecter to the starter and was making a contact causing the starter to engage continuously. Disconnect - dry out - no more problem.

Point is I was very carefull with the spray but those things just get in everywhere.

P1511 EFI Power Management Mode

P2135 TPS Correlation Error

P2176 EFI Closed Position Not Learned

I had that happen once to me after washing with the hose and seat off. Turned out there was water in the ECM connector. After that I packed it with dialectric grease and have not had a problem since.

I have also had my bike go into limp mode for no apparent reason at all. Reset the codes in the comp to get back up and running and it never happened again. Who knows what that was all about...??
