Last summer my 2000 Ultra (76,000 miles) started acting up.
Stalled out a couple of times, then hard to start and then it totally quit twice and was had to get restarted.
The problem, a faulty "kill" switch.
On my 99 ultra to check the codes you turn the ignition on for 3 seconds, turn it off for 3, on for 3 off for 3, turn on then watch the check engine light. If there are any codes it will flash (x) amount of times with short intermission, count those flashes as it is the first # of the code. There will be 1 SECOND Pause and then there will be the same rapid flashes which again you count and this will be your second #. You will have to look in your book to find out what the code means, or if this works you can post the number and wait for someone, possibly me to reply.
Go back to your manual and look closely for the procedure for your bike. It will be in there if you have an H/D shop manual, its in mine. I have to say this one more time, the procedure I described above is for a 1999 ultra classic. It may or may not be the same for yours.
The process to find the codes must be in Braille or I'm the blind one. My manual says for electrical problems I need a separate section which I do not have, those instructions might be in there?
Do you have the H/D service manual, or is it a Haynes or Clymers, or????
If it is an H/D, that does seems strange that it would not be in there. Any other off brand, I am not familiar with those so I would not know what to tell ya.
