I have a 2006 FLHTCUI, and recently have noticed what appears to be a strong gasoline-fuel smell when returning from a ride. When gassing up, I am careful to not fill above the bottom of the the fuel-tank filler neck insert to allow for fuel expansion. I do not visibly see any form of a leak upon inspection of the bike. Has anyone experienced this problem? Would appreciate input to alleviate my concerns.
Thank you for your help -
That reminded me, mine done the same thing occasionally, it has never done it since I had the stage 1 put on, don,t if that was the reason or not. but it,s been 4 months and it hasent done it. 06 Ultra also.
Something you may want to check is the supply fitting check valve. I've been smelling gas all summer long and while I was winterizing it I notice a slight fuel leak between the plastic and the metal. I'm told by the dealer this is a known problem.
On my 2005 Road King there is a plastic line that ends in the back by the drive belt, if you remove the fuse cover you can see it. Sometimes I come back from a ride and I can smell gas fumes sometimes not? It doesn't matter if the gas tank is full or empty, don't get it. I checked all the connetions and everything seems ok. I'm wondering if it could be the charcol canister or maybe fuel filter? If I find any news on this I will let yall know, and if you find something on on this please post. Happy New Year!
Put your gas cap on. No joke, last summer me and my friend rode up to my camp, on the way we stopped for fuel. The rest of the weekend he kept complaining about smelling fuel. He had forgotten to put the cap on at the gas station and just closed the fuel door and locked it. We stopped at the same gas station on the way home and he went in and asked if anyone had found his gas cap, sure enough the lady had it behind the counter, he put it on the bike, problem solved no more gas smell.
