With the riding season upon us, many will be taking long trips. Some will be carrying a passenger, luggage and in general, loading our bikes to the hilt. Here is a web site that will calculate how much weight your bike can handle safely. Thought it a good idea to share this for safety reason;
So the total weight for a FLTRX is 551 lbs. including rider, passenger and luggage based on this site.
ill bet there are a lot of touring rigs out there riding 2 up that far exceedthis.
Recently there was a thread here with rider at about 360 lbs and passenger close to 200 lbs and they were loading up the bags and tour pak
My circumstances which include me at 220 lbs and wife at 150 lbs leaves with about 100 lbs for fuel, helmets, clothing, etc, etc. I know for a fact I have exceeded that amount on our trips. The point is; we all should not throw caution to the wind and overload our bikes for obvious safety reasons. Fuel alone is around 30 lbs plus tools we carry and other items really leaves us with much less carrying capacity, probably something in the area of 50 lbs. In any case, just a word of caution to our fellow riders. Being safe is far more important than carrying stuff we rarely use on long trips anyway.
