Hi,
I purchased the H-D saddlebag trim spears as pictured attached
below. I purchased them from a friend and he can not find the template to layout the hole locations on top of the bags. I hate to miss drill the holes if you know what I mean.
I was wondering if anyone would happen to have their template left.
I would pay shipping if you would want to send it.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
I have been thinking about the same trim spears BUT I don't want to drill any holes cuz then your kinda committed. So my plan is to remove anything that may protrude through the bag and two-face tape it just like a tank badge. If the spear is hollowed out underneath then i would nearly fill it with silicone or similar leaving just enough room for tape. I never saw these spears uninstalled so im only guessing my plan will work. Whata ya think ? Could this work and if so would it help you ?

You should be able to use the gasket if you can't find the template.
1) Lay a piece of masking tape down the center of the lid.
2) measure to find center of lid and mark tape with a pencil
3) Lay the gasket on the center line & tape it down
4) Mark your holes by using the gasket as the template & drill as shown in the instructions above.
When I installed mine, I was going to wing it and not use the template. I measured it all out, THEN decided to overlay it with the template.....sure glad I did. The template compensates for gasket thickness on the edge that comes over the front of the lid. I would use the template if you can....or just measure the hell out of your buddy's lid and drill the same place. Cover the whole lid with low-tac tape, and start your measuring off his lid. Measure 3 times, drill once.
My buddy has a pair of theseon his 2010 Ultra.
I'll see him tomorrow.
If he installed them, chances are good that he kept the template but if he had the dealer install them...they're gone.
From my experience with saddle lids...
If you bags are pin striped, the stripes may not centered on the lid.
If they're not centered, you may have to align the mouldings by eye, to balance them.
Also, place a couple of layers of the 3M blue masking tape on the lid and do the markings with a black marker.
As the saying goes, measure twice cut once.
Once you're sure the markings are correct, drill through the tape.
(The tape may help reduce paint damage if the drill bit moves or wobbles a bit and I always use a small pilot bit before inceasing to the appropriate bit size. This gives you a little wiggle room if your mark is slightly off).
