Default 2012 Street Glide Trans Oil Level

Hello, just changed the trans fluid in my street glide. Changed it to the spectro 6 speed. Owners manual says capacity is 28oz. I put 28oz in and it was barely showing on the dipstick. I went ahead and added the rest of the quart and it still looks a little low. Im gonna let the bike sit overnight and see how it looks in the morning. This spectro is pretty thick so it may need to drain. Anybody else had this experience? Thanks

I believe the trans takes a full quart......My 09 SG does, so yours does tooooooo......Dump in the full quart and ride on, your be fine.....

Also, I'm running the same Spectro fluid which is like water compared to the RedLine Shock Proof Heavy that I dumped out...The shifting appears to be slightly smoother with the Spectro or is it because one quart was over $22.00!!!!!

12 manual states 28oz. I just had to double check because my 08 states 32oz as well, but I'll be darned, the 12 service manual specifically states 28

It's the same damn transmission. What the hell is Harley smoking???? Oh that's right, they also have the '12 guys using 3 quarts of oil in the engine instead of 4....Who comes up with this stuff???

I know, run it low and when it seizes up, buy a new bike. That way there, the new CEO can get a bigger bonus next year!!!!

Hopefully the Dawg will sniff around (sic) and get us an explanation.

I let the bike sit overnight and I checked it first thing this morning. I put the entire quart in but it's still sitting on the bottom ADD line. I'm checking with the stick resting on the threads and the F and A markings facing the rear of the bike when I put the stick in. I don't want to overfill but I definately don't want to run it low.

I don't know if this matters but I did let the old fluid drain out overnight.

I check mine on a jack so the bike is sitting straight and screw the cap in all the way and it always reads at the F line with a quart of fluid in there. Why Harley has you '12 guys putting only 28oz in there is beyond me.

Well, if it's any conselation, wait until you change out your primary oil.
It says to replace it with (get this) not the 32 oz or 1 qt. but 38 ounces.
So now you have to buy 2 qts of HD Formula +. Nice huh?
This is for my 09 though, maybe the 12's are less?

Nope, already bought my 2 quarts of formula+. Primary calls for 38oz.

About this trans, should i keep filling till it reads full on the stick? That would probably be 34-35oz that i added plus i will have to order another bottle of spectro. What to do????

I would stick with the 1 quart, but that's just me.....If it was good enough for the 09-11 model year touring bikes, it's should be OK for yours...
