I have been looking around and can find guys rockin' Apes on new touring bikes all day long.
But I cannot seem to find a "how to" thread.
My buddies and I have done wring jobs on older model bikes, but even my only indy guy is nervous about my TBW 2011 RKC. I am installing 16" Apes, and have the cable and wire extension kits (Thank you HandlebarLouie)
We are Soldiers stationed overseas, and NOT mechanics, but usually get the job done in the garage a few six packs later. And if i need to I will have my indy guy do it. But I would really like to have a step by step thread to see if we want to go it ourselves, or print and show him.
Heres a link I posted that may help you out. I just cut and soldered 18ga wire to lengthen the tbw wires for my prime apes. I ditched the green connector as well as I didnt see a need for it taking up so much space within the bars.
If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
Ive searched high and low myself and none to be found since a 10" ape has me thinkin hummm that might be righteous. There was a how to on installing a set of Heritage style bars on out RKs and I followed it close and was successful with the install but none on apes.

Any help would be appriciated!
I looked for everything I could about this like you probably are doing. The best thing I ended up seeing was a link in one of the threads to a video on doing it. here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik73i5x3jdI
I paid to have mine done. Thing that scared me away from doing it myself was pulling the wires through the handlebars. Also reading the threads saying their bike won't start or various things were not working after the install. Could have done it myself and saved a few bux. Found a indy shop to do the work vs the dealer the dealer wanted 11 hours at 95 an hour. The indy shop did it for have that price.
do a search on the forum for Yaffe MOnkey Bars....there is a TON of instructional info on how to install them..mostly on street glides and ultras.... and for you the job will be MUCH easier cuz you don't have a fairing and you don't have that funky P.I.A. reverse bend that the Monkey bars have.... makes pulling wires a real treat.
if you do a decent job of soldering you should be fine...like the other guy said GET RID of the green plug connector on the TBW.....
I just put Khrome Werks 2" Sweepers on my FLTRU two weeks ago. I eliminated the green plug, soldered and extended the wires, staggering the splices so I didn't end up with a ball. Heat shrink tubing over each splice. I also got rid of the wires for the heated grips. I had to take a dremel and make the opening in the bar at the grips bigger to get the wires through. Make a picture of the connectors for throttle & Clutch side, also TBW, noting wire colors, pictures help. Check out the Road Glide Forums handle bar thread, very informative.
I also used instructions I found when I googled and it brought me right here in this forum with a really nice step by step on heritage bars. It got me started as far as taking it all apart but after that I was on my own due to putting it all back together internally. Now mine were not apes. They were low and easier and did not require extensions although that would have helped me. I posted a short "how to"
If your using extensions and depending on where you are cutting the wires...you may not have to dissect the plugs like I did.
Hope this offers a little help. SC
