I am looking at a 2009 street glide with 9K miles and wondering what would be a good buy on this bike.
The bike is pretty much stock and has a stereo, 2x windshileds, highway pegs, windshield bags, hard bag covers and maybe cheap slip ons.
The bike does not have:
ABS
security
CB
Backrest
cruise control
Breather kit
Fuel management or performance download
The asking price is $16K but I have seen many sell for about the same or slightly more with a lot more options and even a year or two newer on this site.
NADA Retail on that bike is $16,360. Keep in mind that is what a dealer would ask, not an individual. Dealer has more overhead than an individual sale. KBB says $18,110, once again, that is retail in excellent condition. KBB tends to be over inflated. If you want the bike and it's in good condition I think his asking price is fair, but realistically I think it's more like a $15k bike from a private party. Here is the NADA link http://www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycle...dard-Equipment
16k is a little high for that bike in my opinion. There are a lot better deals to be had for the $. Now with that said, the price is very relevant to what you want and what you're wanting to pay for it. Every HD out there for sale; the owner has a value they think it's worth to them for 1 reason or another. Could be a payoff, could be that they sunk a ton of $ into it, etc., etc., etc. The bottom line is take that bike, go to kbb.com (18,110.00-retail, 13,750.00-trade-in)or nada.com (17,346.00-retail)and get the value from there for retail. Figure in the fact that it's pretty much bone stock, and low mileage and you should be able to strike a deal, especially if paying cash. Keep in mind in 09 these were new for about 19,500.00 in color/less if black.
If you're looking at this from a HD dealer, then expect to pay that or maybe a few hundred less if you're good at negotiating.
Pelagic, if cruise is important to you then pass on the bike. HD does not sell the cruise retrofit anymore and it's a PITA to gather all the parts for it. I agree with the others on the price, it's reasonable but it's not a screaming deal.
