Default Engine question

I know it's not the right section buy can't get a response on other pages. My dad is looking at an 02 wide glide w/32, 000 miles, $ 6,000. Descent price or what? About how much would it cost to get the motor freshened up if needed? No big bore kit or anything just tighten it up. Thanks guys

I cant give ya a cost amount, but unless this bike has been badly abused, it should need no work. 32,000 is nothing if the bike has been maintained.

Sounds okay.
Ask if cam chain tensioners have been checked/replaced.

For that price, year, and mileage, you are getting it at a good price. Assuming that the previous owner was not a burnout king. Ask some questions that might tip you off, is it the original belt? How old are the tires? About how long do tires last on this type of bike?
Check the condition of the belt and ask if it is the original. Sometimes belts do wear prematurely, or a rock gets caught in there and can do damage. But if this guy just put a new belt and new back tire on, I would start picking it apart looking at all the minor issues.
Have to take into consideration just who is trying to sell it? Original owner? How old are they? So on and such. And as mentioned, ask about the cam chain tensioners. If those have not been replaced or upgraded, you will need to address that very soon if your dad buys it. Not very hard to do, I just did this a few weeks ago.
Regarding freshening up the motor, at 32,000 if it was taken care of at all, outside of the tensioners/cam bearings, that motor will be good for double to triple that mileage.

Tighten up?! If it has been ridden like most Harleys it's barely run in. If the cams have not been done there may be no need to change them, but it is wise to inspect them. Plenty on here about doing that.

Bear in mind that the majority of owners of TC88s have never heard of 'cam problems' and are happily riding around without a care in the world. If the tensioners are badly worn they can be changed for direct replacements quite economically. There is no need to go to the extremes that some do.
