Actually lots of people mistake the plug on the bottom fwd on the actually Harley block (crank case) with the pipe threads as the oil drain when what it truely is a check to make sure the oil return is in good condition (engine is not sumping) When correct there will only be about 5-8 oz of oil in the block and cam case. The acually MS oil drain is the pan attached to bottom of transmission. The actual transmission is also an ms fitting with an o-rign off to the side and on the left side the primary with the ms fitting. Softail like mine have the ms with the o-ring in the frame brace hooked to the oil tank by a rubber hose and the transmission ms fitting up between the shocks for the transmission. Early bikes like my o4 and older have a NPT pipe plug in the primary. The engine sump really should not be removed and if remove by those who fill compelled to get ever oz of old oil, so be it but be vary careful removing that npt plug in the block. it is actually very thin in this are and if you screw the npt tapered plug back in too tight it will actually create a crack in the thin boss a will cause a drip that will not stop and the tighter you screw the plug in the wider and bigger the drip will get....
