I know a couple of EMT's and if there are no ICE contacts, they'll look through the phone's recently called numbers and start calling them.

As a long time ems volunteer, and we service part of the Nys thruway, I've picked up plenty downed bikers, our first priority is getting the patient stabilized and transported, second we need any medical history, so if the patient is alert he/she can give us all the info including who to call, if they're unconscious then yes we would need to reach someone ASAP to find out if he's on any type of meds, if he suffers from certain allergies, heart trouble history, pacemaker, and on and on.
So it IS pretty important that we find a contact right away. Of course if we don't we work with what we have.
Another thing is if you get to the hospital and the situation is bad, a family member gets to make major decisions on your behalf and chances are that they know your wishes, where as the doctor will do anything to keep you going unless they have permission otherwise. Me personally let everyone know that I never want to be KEPT alive if I'm gonna have to either be bedridden for the rest of my life or crippled, but if no one is there to tell them that they will put me on a respirator e.t.c.
I know where all tough guys and are not afraid of pain e.t.c.
But I've seen grown men cry when there are bones sticking out from places that you never even knew you had a bone.
I'll never forget 1 call we had where the bikers leg was so badly burned and mangled in the bike that they had to amputate it on the scene.
So people put you macho toughness aside for a minute and either put something in your wallet, helmet, phone, bracelet. We will find it. And someone mentioned about not putting in the helmet because of c spine, you are correct BUT the helmet could get taken off if needed once the patient is stabilized with c spine and since I always wear a helmet thats the 1 thing I know for sure will be on me no matter what, I also keep ice in my phone wallet e.t.c.

Good thought op I am recently widowed and do a lot of riding alone. I carry a card in my wallet next to my drivers license that when you open my wallet stands out that says that I am a diabetic my blood type and emergency contacts.

Excellent advice!

You'd be the first to know that all the "tough, bad dudes" cry like a baby and holler for momma when those bones start showing. Lotsa really bad dudes ride these keyboards...

Responsible touring would dictate that an EMT would have all the necessary medical information and contact info.... if your unable to respond to questions yourself.

Wait a minute.... I said responsible touring. Most riders don't need to take this precaution as they only ride from their place to the local bar... next block over. Their neighbors can give needed info...

I've got kiddo's and a great wife... some great friends also. I prefer that any "help" have as much information as possible, but that's just me. I carry a card on my bike and in my wallet with pertinent info. Bracelet is a great idea!

I have an I-Phone and there is a app on it called "Find My Friends" that my wife can track me with. I also have all the pertinent #'s listed in contacts under ICE and 911 both. I was in a bad accident a few years ago and the EMT called her from the scene. She made it down there just as they were loading me into the Helicopter.

They ran your plate, got your name and called the name associated with it.

Full face helmets with possible c-spine fracture removing the helmet is contraindicated. I've never, ever heard of amputations being performed in the field. I do agree that guys pain tolerance is weak compared to women. Toughest guys with tattoos cry about hating needles.

Never thought about it. Almost always ride alone. Nobody ever knows where I'm going. Never told anybody where I was going. Too often I don't even know where I am going. Phone is almost always in my pocket, so it would be within reach in a wreck but probably broken and unusable. Between tags, VIN, and what is in my wallet I've no doubt they can find enough information. I'm sure my insurance company knows my ICE info.

True not so many people care. My kids who are too young to have phones and my parents. If I didn't pull through my Ex would be upset the gravy train ended, but happy she wouldn't have to share the kids anymore. Someone on Facebook would eventually find out and most of the people on my Facebook would talk about it for a couple days. You could say I'm not old enough yet, but I just don't think about all the bad things that can happen. Life wouldn't be much fun. Like BP said, I'd have to sell my bike. Sell my truck too. I'd probably have to lock myself in a childproof room like they did in Final Destination. Or have myself committed like the one girl did in Final Destination 2. (If you haven't seen the movies I highly recommend them)

I did download Cradar to my phone though thanks to someone in this thread. 'Course I turn GPS off all the time to save battery life so it might not work when I need it to.

Ride safe and never forget that everyone is trying to kill you out there on ur bike. Hopefully none of us will ever have a need for this thread.

^^ This.

If in a wreck, you never know if your phone is going to be broken. It's harder to destroy a piece of paper in your wallet, and it's usually one of the first places people look.
