RE: Back to Fairing Brackets
ORIGINAL: bluesgub
Mine is still under the two year warranty so they should fix it free. It worked out that way with the black bracket. In response to Sreynold 1: My mirror on the side where the brackets were broken vibrated so much I thought there were four headlights behind me instead of one. You may not feel much differance though until they are completely broken. I only have 7500 miles on my bike and seem to be the only one in my club with a problem. At least a dozen other bikes with a similar fairing 2006-2007.
The dealer gave me the option:
Fix it "free" under the watranty, and I pay the $50 warranty co-pay....or I purchase the part ($10) and they install it as a no-charge small job. I chose the 2nd option.
I think you're talking about the extended warranty. Then they charge $50.00 for you to bring it in. $10.00 is cheap! My '06 has a two year warranty that covers anything not considered a consumable. So far three fairing brackets and a motormount. No charge for replacing. Still a pain to have to take them in unless it's scheduled service. I guess they don't call them "Milwaukee Vibrators" for nothing!
Tore front motor mounts are a big reason for this problem. The other is the MOCO cable ties the wiring harnesses so tight to these brackets that the weight of the harness and the constant push / pull from bumps puts alot of stress on these very thin brackets. You can reduce the chance of these breaking by loosely cable tieing the harness to the bracket. This will allow the harness to flex seperately from the brackets.
Thanks for the information above. I had seen the two horizontal brackets were broken and replaced these since they were so obvious when I had the outer fairing off the bike.
But I hadn't noticed that the vertical left black bracket was also broken exactly where one of the above pictures pointed to. Will find out the cost of repairing this under the ESA or simply buy the part and replace it myself. Thanks also for the tip on loosely using tie wraps on the various wiring harnesses.

I could be mistaken, but it seems that, as far as teh vertical brackets are concerned, the one on the left side has a greater habit of breaking. BTW, the $10 cost was the price I was charged for one of the horizontal brackets. I have little doubt that one of the vertical ones would cost more.
