I had one of my fairing brackets onmy 06' Streetglide replaced at about 4500 miles. And now the two horizontal brackets that sit under the speakers in the fairing have broken. The bracket on the left side is completely broken and dropped through the fairing and the right side has a crack in it that causes the right side to vibrate.
Any other SG owners have this problem. The last replaced bracket was a verticle bracket that had been painted black and attached to the left side of the radio. The crack was straight down the 90 degree crease in the metal. My local dealer replaced it under warranty.
These brackets are a very weak point in the support for the inner fairing and radio. I have replaced my 02 brackets 2 times (both sides). The last time I added an extra brace in the area that broke with some epoxy and self tapping screw prior to installation. So far it has worked and no other issues. Most hardware stores sell the small L - shaped brackets, may want to give it a try.

RE: Back to Fairing Brackets
I recently had the same problem with my 2000 FLHTPI. The dealer replaced the broken left horizontal bracket free, charging me only $10 for the part (they purposely did not perform the repair under warranty in order to avoid the $50 fee). Some weeks later, when I had the front end apart to rebuild my forks with Race Tech Gold Valve Emulators, I discovered the horizontal bracket was still intact, but the left vertical black painted bracket was snapped in the exact place you described. I fixed it by welding and repainting it, it is stronger than before, so far my batwing is solid and secure for the past 10,000 miles over the past 2 months.

RE: Back to Fairing Brackets

Can you tell if the brackets are broken without pulling the fairing apart?
If one of mine breaks again, I will know it. There is a peculiar rattle/clunking sound from the fairing when going over sharp pavement joints and bumps, and the mirror on the side that is broken vibrates/blurs when hitting these bumps.
Mine is still under the two year warranty so they should fix it free. It worked out that way with the black bracket. In response to Sreynold 1: My mirror on the side where the brackets were broken vibrated so much I thought there were four headlights behind me instead of one. You may not feel much differance though until they are completely broken. I only have 7500 miles on my bike and seem to be the only one in my club with a problem. At least a dozen other bikes with a similar fairing 2006-2007.
Covered under warranty! It looks like the problem was caused by a broken motor mount also replaced under warranty. Haven't picked up the bike yet so I don't know if the vibration has decreased.
yes, my 2006 S.G. inner support on left side broke with 12,000 miles on bike. I found it due to a rattle in the fairing that only went away when i pushed on the inner fairing.
Definate differance replacing the motormount. May not have caused the first fairing bracket to break but it had to have caused the second problem. Runs oh so smooth now.
