I wonder what was consider a base a FLH. I know they made a FLHX Shovelhead limited edition. Plus FLH ElectraGlide Batwing fairing, saddlebags, toutpak, Shovelhead 4spd, and a FLHS Sport Glide Shovelhead 4spd. (All Shovelheads).

1985 was the first year of the Evo. The 'base' model with shovel didn't have a tourpak or batwing I believe, rather like the later Evo FLHS and Road King.

yeah its all original. the guy I bought it from bought it new in 84 if u can believe that. I've known him all my life and watched him put many many miles on this bike.Its def an EVO motor...late 84..rubber mount with 5 speed. I have another problem that shown up today. I finally took it for a test ride today. Every thing ran straight and true. felt good. It is having a problem shifting. goes up through the gears good and back down to 2nd but its a bitch getting into 1st or finding neutral. what could cause this..replaced clutch cable shifter shaft and inner shifter lever.BTW all my earlier problems have been fixed..lol thanks for yalls helps!

1985 model year started around July/August 1984, so that fits with earlier comments!

The '84 FLH had a shovel motor, dry clutch/primary w/chain drive, 4 speed tranny and belt final drive. It came with bags and no wiring, gauges or anything else in the batwing, which was just a quickly removable one-piece shell with a windshield. The tour pack trunk was an option. Some of the engines had a number similar to the VIN and the last of the year's run just had 4 stars. If yours has an EVO motor, it's not a standard 1984 FLH.

Actually, all you need to do to positively identify what model you have is to go to one of the many websites that ID the bikes by the VIN. If you're doing an OEM resto, this will tell you what you need to know.

Correct. There were no EVO FLH's in 1984. Touring EVO's for 1984 were FLHTC's or FLTC's. All 1984 FLH's were Shovels with the old 4 speed frame.

Thats what I figured. I have a 1984 FLHS, their is a guy on this site with a 1984 FLH (With everthing on it)That he bought new. I don't think the stetement about the 1984 Base Model FLH "only" is accurate.

This what I wonder;
1984 FLHT(like op bikes) - Did this bike come with a frame mounted batwing style windsheild. Or the RoadGlide, TourGlide(sharknose) style frame mounted. Was the 1984 FLHT considered a Electra Glide?
