Punching out the baffles on my 04 Rg, info please...
Was thinking on trying to open the baffles or whatever you do on my bike to make her a lil louder. I will be buying some slip ons a little later probably in the fall(when i can do it without the wife knowing) but for now would like to just make em a lil louder. Can someone tell me how to do this? I have the slip ons already off the bike now.
I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you're prepared to take the bike in for tuning.
I pulled the baffles out of my V&H slipons and the bike wouldn't do much more than 50 MPH while backfiring, spitting and coughing.
Looking from the end of pipe, you should see the baffle where it meets the inside of pipe, sort of tapered. Drill four 1/2" holes around the inner baffle at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. See how you like that sound, they will sound slightly louder and deeper, but don't go too big or it'll lose too much back pressure. YMMV.

Sounds easy, is the hd mechanic right when he told me im fine not getting it flashed?
Yes, as long as you're only doing pipes. If you decide to change air cleaner for whatever reason, least expense way is to add XIED from www.nightrider.com.
BTW, you might want to just do two @ 12 and 6, or 3 and 9 o'clock to begin with, you can always add two more if you want the pipes louder, but I won't go more than four. The easiest way to do it is to use a pin punch to mark/start where you want the holes.

I used a 1 or 1 1/4" hole saw chucked up in a battery powered drill to do both my FXDL and FLHT. Its pretty simple. The hole saw fit it to a tee so you can just knock the slug out of it from the inlet end (with a long steel rod) once drilled through the plug.
It does the trick until one can pop for sllipon mufflers.
It does make a nice noticable improvement but will leave you wanting more............
Enjoy, ride safe
